One of the things that had kept me up at night for so long was the fact that we were
transporting our backup tapes to an off-site location after our daily processing was
completed. This was done with the best of intentions to satisfy an auditor or an examiner. But to me, this practice opened up a serious hole in our security concerning confidential customer information if the tape somehow “left our control” between the bank and our backup site.

After reading in numerous trade publications about banks that had allowed customer
information to fall into the wrong hands and the legal and public relations consequences that inevitably followed, I worried our conservative bank could suffer the same results.

So I began inquiring around about a way to remotely back our iSeries data directly to our off-site data storage location, and I discovered that LaserVault had a way to do the exact thing that I was looking for. We connect our network to a branch located about 2.5 miles from our main office using a licensed microwave transmitter/receiver.

Now, we execute a job after processing and our backups are automatically transmitted securely without anyone being able to intercept them and use our customer’s valuable information for their own purposes. It has worked very well for us and we are very happy with our relationship with LaserVault.
