LaserVault Announces Universal Backup Device (UBD™) for IBMi

Universal Backup Device™ (UBD) is a Fibre Channel connected solution that appears as a tape device to your IBMi (iSeries, AS/400) host enabling throughput up to 304MB/sec with an ability to interface with BRMS, Robot/Save, TATools or any in-house backup program.

The only difference to the operator is instead of getting up to retrieve and load one or more tape cartridges, they can use an IBM Emulator (Green Screen) or the UBD™ browser-based Management Console to create and load a new tape image before processing a backup. UBD™ supports all CL commands for automating tape image creation and selection from the host side.

UBD™ can be used as a gateway device to store backups on your SAN, NAS, or any deduplication appliance that support CIFS, NFS or iSCSI connections; such as Exagrid, GreenBytes, NetApp, Quantum, EMC Avamar, CommVault etc...
